It began with a mother, a mission, and a promise
—to bring hope to grieving children and their families.
Every Story Begins With a Purpose
Meet Andy, our teen co-founder. Watch his story.

The Grief Heroes Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in Florida in 2019 by Susan Binau—a mother, cancer survivor, and advocate—in collaboration with her teenage son and a dedicated team of partners.

Our Vision
In a world where every grieving child has access to support—and where society speaks openly about loss, bridging the gap in care that leaves so many children feeling isolated in their grief.
Our Mission
To provide grieving children with essential resources and to empower families and educators with the tools to help young hearts heal.
Our Impact
Since 2015, we’ve developed, tested, and donated age-appropriate grief workbooks in collaboration with schools and organizations throughout Florida and beyond.

Trusted by schools, counselors, and families since 2015.

How Grief Heroes Is Making a Difference
Our workbooks are thoughtfully designed for children ages 3 to 12 and include engaging content and activities that help them understand and cope with difficult emotions. These tools serve as a vital resource for families—encouraging meaningful conversations and reducing the sense of loneliness that grief often brings.
In 2020, during the challenges of COVID-19, we launched a pilot school donation project. We distributed Grief Heroes Kits to 525 teachers and school counselors across 18 elementary schools in the Putnam District of Oklahoma City—one of the most underserved districts in the U.S.
Each kit included interactive grief workbooks in three languages, adult guidelines, and virtual training for educators. The response was overwhelming, and the impact continues to grow.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, co-founder and author Andy Binau became a spokesperson in the media on the topic of grief.
Building upon the tools and programs our founders have developed, tested, and since 2015, we are to changing the way society approaches grief.a dedicated team of innovative entrepreneurs and educational— all of whom have experienced loss and grief we combine technology, education, music, and the arts to create impactful grief programs.
Our goal is to provide nationwide support by integrating our Grief Heroes portal into every school district, shaping a future where no child has to grieve in isolation.

Honoring the Legacy of Susan Binaus' Collaborators: Celebrating the Footprints They Left Behind
Susan's journey since 2000 has been remarkable. Her work with volunteers, healthcare professionals, and educators has provided her with a solid foundation to become the founder of Grief Heroes and continue her work under its umbrella.
We also remember those who have passed away and who wanted to pay it forward or shared their knowledge in her books and programs.
To honor them, we have created a tribute page called
